*I smooth my hands over my dress whites one more time. I look around, making sure that everything is set up perfectly. I know that Mac's meeting doesn't get out for another half hour, but I have to make sure, just in case, that everything is ready. I want tonight to be perfect for her. I hear giggling coming down from the landing, and I sigh, looking up.* "Yes girls?" *I ask in a sacchrine sweet tone. At first I wanted this to be a moment just between Mac and I, but I knew that Mattie and Chole were apart of the family, and they should be included.* "Nothing Harm. We just think that it's cute that you're so nervous!" *Mattie shouts down. Nervous? Me? Nah....Okay, maybe just a bit. Let me just go over everything one last time...* "Hey Harm? I'm home early!"*...Oh crap...*
*I've had the finalized divorce papers for some time now, but with everything moving so fast I haven't had a chance to take Sarah a copy. I'm not sure if her lawyer gave her a copy or not, but I want to give her a copy myself just so I know she has one, and that she knows everything is done and finalized between us. Since I was taking Scully out for a romantic dinner tonight anyway, I asked her if she wouldn't mind stopping by Sarah and Harm's place real quick so I could drop off the papers, since we'll be in the neighborhood anyway. I know she would feel better if she went with me, even with our current relationship status, and she tells me that's fine. So we get dressed for dinner and head over to Sarah and Harm's house. Just as we pull up I see Sarah just about to enter the house. I call for Scully to come with me as I hastily grab the papers and hurry out of the car to catch her before she goes inside. I call out to her.* "Sarah!" *But she doesn't hear me as she turns the key and walks through the door. Damn! I was hoping to catch her before she made it inside so we could get this over with, but no such luck. I'm already at Scully's side of the car and I take her hand in mine and give her a smile as we head up the walk together, hand in hand. I reach out and knock, and she must not have gotten too far inside by the time it took us to walk to the door, because the door instantly opens and Sarah is now standing before us with a slightly surprised but polite smile on her face. She asks me what we're doing there, and before I can answer her, Harm walks up from behind her wearing his dress whites. I think we've just unintentionally interrupted something.* "We don't mean to interrupt." *I say politely.* "I just wanted to drop by a copy of the finalized divorce papers for your records, Sarah." *I look over at Harm who is giving me the evil eye, even though I'm only here to drop off our divorce papers. Geez, you think the guy would be happy about that. Then again, maybe he's mad about whatever we just interrupted. I try to be as polite as possible, so I give him a tight smile and nod in his direction.* "Harm." *I then turn and look at Scully, who is still standing quietly at my right side, still holding my hand.* "Oh, I'm sorry, how rude of me. You both remember Dana, right? My wife." *I say with a proud smile as I turn to share a look with Scully and bring her left hand up to my lips for a soft kiss as I do. I just love the way her wedding ring sparkles as the light hits it.*
I walk into the house, stressed out and tired. All I want is a bath and a bed, perferably with Harm's arms around me. The days has been rushed and hectic and I'm glad to be home. But with no such luck, someone knocks on the door the moment I close it. When I open it back, I find Dana and Fox standing before me. He informs me that he's come to drops of the papers and then informs me that Dana is his wife. The news hits me hard, but I know that Harm and I are finally at a spot in our relationship that he understands that a part of me belongs to Fox. "Of course I remember her. Congratulations." I mutter as I take the papers from him. "Thanks for dropping these off Fox. I appreciate it. You two have a good night." Before either can say goodbye, I shut the door in their faces. I turn around and see Harm standing behind him. I know he sees the tears that have filled my eyes, but I see him in his dress whites and wonder what's going on."You okay?" He asks. I nod and lay the papers down on the end table."Tired, just tired." I reply. "Bath and bed." But just as I say that, Chloe and Mattie walk in front the dining room, both dressed to the nines. "Guys?" I ask, unsure of what's going on."Mac, tonight is special. Get into the dress lying on the bed in our room and meet me in the living room in ten minutes." I'm not sure what to say or what's going on. But nonetheless, I pause and then go up the stairs to our room. I find a slinkly black dress in a dry cleaners bag thrown over the bed. I change into it quickly, to find that it molds perfect against every curve, and even shows a tad bit of cleavage. I knew tonight must be special. I slip on the strappy black heels that lay below the dress and pull the bobby pins out of my hair, letting it fall down in the natural waves it holds. I walk down the stairs to find the three of them standing in a line, at attention, from shortest to tallest."Guys, seriously, what's going on?" Harm smiles and steps forward, taking my hand. He leads me into the dining room, while the girls walk behind us giggling. And I can't think of what he has in store.
*I sigh in relief as Mac closes the door. She probably should have been a little bit nicer, but...the last thing that I had planned for tonight was catching a glimpse of Mac's ex. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them, but now it's Mac and I's time. It's our turn to be happy.* "C'mon Mac, get that Marine brain of yours working!" *I tease her, softly kissing the palm of her hand. I lead her into the dining room and I hear her gasp. I'm very proud of myself, since the dining room looks very nice. There are candles everywhere, and the table is set for a nice dinner for four.* "Harm, this is....amazing. It's beautiful..." *She whispers.* "All for you Sarah." *I whisper back, as I lightly kiss her forehead.*
I close my eyes when he kisses me and smile to myself. I'm so lucky to have him. Through all the trials and the bad relationships and everything we went through together to get through this point, I love him twice as much. As he pulls away from me and takes my hand, I look over to find Mattie and Chloe crying. My Marine brain is yelling that he's going to propose, but I don't want to ruin the moment. So in anticipation, I stand there, and wait as he gets down on one knee. My tears begin to flow.
*Alright, just deep breaths Rabb. This is a little harder than I thought it would be. Having three crying females within a ten foot radius tends to get to you a little bit nervous. I take Sarah's hand and get down on one knee, hoping that our floor's clean. I reach into my pocket and start grasping for the ring. Hmm...that's not good. I reach into my other pocket, and begin searching. I look up and try to smile comfortingly, as Mac's beginning to look anxious.* "Shiiiiit..." *I murmur under my breath. I get up and grasp Mac's hand tightly.* "Just wait here one minute Sarah...." *I murmur, kissing her forehead. I then turn and dash up the stairs, praying that I'm not about to screw this up. I can hear the girls laughing at me as I run upstairs. This is not how I had this all planned!*
I turn and look at the girls, who are now giggling uncontrollably rather than crying. I don't understand what's going on, I thought I did, but now I'm not too sure. But before I realize he's gone, Harm is right back down on his knee in front of me.
*I smile up at Mac, hoping that she'll forgive me for screwing this up so badly. I pull the ring out of my pocket this time, checking quickly to make sure that the ring is actually inside.* "Sarah, I know that we've been through a lot in the past, and I think that it's nothing short of a miracle that we've ended up where we are today." *I take a deep breath, and I know that Mac probably wants to strangle me for not getting to the point already. Mattie and Chole probably do too...probably should moving then, huh?* "Sarah Mackenzie, you mean the world to me, and I would like nothing better, than if you were to become my wife." *I open up the small velvet box in my hand, and await her answer. Please God, let her say yes...*
Tears filled my eyes, my heart began to flutter, and I collasped against him. "Yes! Yes Harm, I'll marry you!" My nose ran and I wiped it away, in the least bit embarassed. He slid the ring on my finger and I smiled. It was the first time I'd ever felt completely happy, completely sure, and completely at peace, within myself.
